THE GLOBAL DILEMMA

With great determination and enthusiasm,Westerners "successfully" became the conquerors of many nations for decades long. These Westerners, most notably Britain and America have scaled up to unimaginable heights to prove their capability. While I am not talking about imperialism,I would like to touch about the impact that they have left behind.

Let go about the implications on our social structure and economy. These conquerors have indirect impact on language too.Seeing their lavish, stylish  lifestly now and before, many longed to lead such lives. We started to live, wlk and talk like them. Our cultures and way of living seemed boring and far from being labelled as uber.

And in the advent of modern lifestyle, adaptation happened among the masses.Especially in terms of language, people, internationally, started to use English in daily conversation.Much importance was emphasised on English and less on our mother tongue. To our horror, some even "ridiculously" stopped using their mother tongue languages and recognised themselves as Englishman. This, particularly, happened in well-educated groups where they lack respect for their native languages.

For me,it is worrisome to witness even small children unable to communicate using their mother tongue. They are more comfortable interacting using English Language. It is not wrong, however it kills the native language gradually. In such cases, the parents are there to be blamed.Through my observation, many parents (not all) talk to their children in English and even scold them if the kids do speak in their mother tongue. How awkward is this?

Despite the existence of some groups championing the rights of native language, the importance of our mother tongue should be acknowledge and appreciated individually.Being the "lingua franca",English is crucial but it does not mean that we can have lackadaisical attitude towards our native language.Think about it!

FREEDOM OF SPEECH

Yesterday,I taught my little cousin brother that the mighty Sun is the centre of our Solar System. He nodded silently and subsequently, asked a question that made me to ponder."What is then, the centre of the Earth?"little Sanjay asked. His question may sound simple yet for me,to furnish the exact answer would be a mind-gruelling task.

In easy words, there is no exact point for us to recognise as the centre of our planet. In the 19th century, the world looked up at Europe as the most prominent place on Earth, most notably after its Renaissance success. At that particular moment in written history, everything important came from Europe not mentioning world-class intelligentsia.

Then,a few centuries after,in the post-World War 2 period, the new giant,Uncle Sam's nation,America toppled Europe from its position and emerged as the vital place on Earth.Ever since,U.S.A had attained a good name in the global arena.Believe it or not,the emergence of this Anglo-Saxon nation altered it into a great phenomenon.Wherever you may go,you can witness many people "hailing" America as a good example.

America and its nationals value freedom of speech as the most crucial element in their lives. This was specifically proven by David Hitchcock's research some time ago, that Americans gave the highest score for freedom of speech compared to the Asians. For Americans, freedom of speech is a compulsary right for everyone and any attempts to disrupt this freedom is inevitably,a violation.

America is always seen as the leading protagonist in the freedom of speech movement. This nation, has also been urging every nation to practise this right. But at the same time, the press in America were not given the full opportunity to cover a story.Often, there are limitations to their freedom of speech. To get it straight,it is easy to preach but difficult to carry it out literally.

Actually, individuals and non-profittable organisations globally have seriously engaged in movements to compel the governments to practise freedom of speech. But,many lawmakers, internationally, deem that freedom of speech,if recognised in big scale can trigger problems in a nation. For them ,everything should have its limitations or else,we might have to face severe cicumstances.  They may have a point there.

In a nut shell, voicing out our opinions in public is not that bad after all.It is just that we should the right way to do it.

THE 9/11 INCIDENT;FORGET NOT

Looking back into the past,it has been 10 years since the black, petrifying incident. The global community was apparently, taken aback watching the North and South Towers of World Trade Centre collapsing, scrambling down to Earth, broadcasted live by the stakeholders of mediasphere like CNN and BBC.Not to be mentioned, residents of the Big Apple city, undeniably may still not able to forget about the "blockbuster" scenario.

Perusing through the local daily's pages, one by one photos of people mourning for their dead family members in the disaster, stole my heart for sure. For those residing outside the American borders, the impact may not be this gigantic. What to say, 3000 innocent lives were lost pathetically due to the unscrupulous act of the ruthless terrorists.Americans suffered the most;they lost their loved ones and they lost economically(Wall Street was closed for one whole week).

And then, retaliation was initiated.Under the stewardship of Regal George W.Bush,America boasted with the "War On Terrorism" propaganda.Innocent Muslims were classified as terrorists, and thousands of lives murdered in Afghanistan and Iraq in the name of peace and tranquilty. The target was the much-feared Osama Bin Laden, and with Uncle Sam's prodigious defence strength, attacks were launched.Ironically, however, only after almost 10 years that is this year,Bin Laden was "successfully" killed with honour.

But,does this mean that everything is over?Certainly not,as terrorism is everywhere.More attacks may be experienced in future, but no one can firmly say when this terrifying vendetta will end.I am not saying that the terrorists are good nor America's military actions are the best. The main cult is terrorism should be destroyed from the root, but not by force. You can never fight fire with fire. This world has seen much;from the World Wars until the WTC attack, anger and terrorism never helped us in any way.

Hypothetically, the Ground Zero may be developed with state of the art new towers, but that will not delete the nightmare of New Yorkers in the history as the story of World Trade Centre wil live on.

The Malignant Silent Killer;Corruption

of c rOne man army-Anna Hazare. This was the first thing that slipped into my mind while reading a daily’s article, recently. This single man despite his old age, stood alone supported by his adherents to compel the Indian Parliament to establish an anti-graft bill.Another “hero”,Baba Ramdev emerged in the limelight as a protagonist in the anti-graft movement, previously. These two icons emphasised on the same thing;a nation free of corruption. One thing for sure,Indians can inevitably,be ”proud” of their nation’s “achievements” as India is positioned in the top ranking of world’s worst corrupted countries’ list by a foreign wire,Transparency International. What happens in India is something ubiquitous as corruption is rife there.Although India finds itself in the headlines as one of the future economic giants in Asia apart from China, corruption is something that it cannot get rid off.

Actually, corruption lies everywhere, scattered throughout continents.Intellectuals worldwide have addressed this issue for decades, and yet, ironically unable to come up with a counter-attack formula for corruption cases.I picture corruption or graft as malicious cancer cells,”killing” a nation silently from the inside.Corruption proved to be fatal especially if the civil servants of public sector are involved in such embarrassing issues. This fragile Earth, most recently, witnessed the naked truth that throughout the globe, people started to rebel against the unworthy, corrupted governments. This scenario occurred in several nations like Syria,Egypt and Libya. Most of us are sick of these corruption issues burdening us,both directly and indirectly.I definitely bet that we are tired of certain police officers asking for bribe without shame. We are tired of certain unscrupulous “people-friendly” politicians demanding for money to help us out whenever we encounter any problem. We are also, regretfully tired of seeing civil servants in top posts ‘craving’ for money to approve private or government projects. And most fascinatingly,we have seen these sorts of issues being addressed in many movies It seems that many of us would really be glad if corruption would meet a dead end soon.

The truth is,the causes for this problem not only lies on the hands of others, but also in ourselves .Condemn corruption or any other form of it.Do not even once, for any reason, give or receive bribe.Report immediately to the respective authority if anyone tried to engage in such cases. We alone may not be able to alter the status quo,but at least we can be part of a change that might produce tangible benefits to the global community. Those, whom are caught due to such cases, might give many excuses, especially insufficient pay, that triggered them to involve in corruption, but surely,it is not a good excuse.Even some of us,whom receive high salaries receive bribes. So,what is the real reason?

I opine that, one’s pay figures should not be made as an excuse. In the end, corruption leads to lack of moral virtues and ethics.Globally, due to corruption, annually, huge pool of money are lost in the form of black money. This definitely will create an imbalance in the economy.Lastly, everyone will suffer due to economic deterioration but somehow, the filthy rich ones would absolutely save themselves from the ordeal.

In Anna Hazare’s case,he managed to compel the Indian parliament to create an anti-graft bill.Yet,it may not mark the end of corruption.More efforts need to be carried out to combat this issue. Most importantly, everything has to be initiated from us with a pure form of awareness about the danger of corruption. And to remind you, this is a message not only for India, but also to the entire planet Earth.
t only for India, but also to the entire planet Earth.

PALESTINE;THE EPITOME OF DEVASTATION

Geographically,Palestine is made up of two regions;the West Bank and Gaza. All these while, this small nation found itself in the headlines of dailies worldwide(and that is if the citizens are able to even buy a newspaper).Analysing the bygone history, one can inevitably realise that this Muslim-majority country used to be a big nation prior to the British Mandate 1948 agreement as well as the Gulf War.

But,all of a sudden, everything altered. With alien forces conquering and perpetrating atrocious violence on Palestine soil, this unfortunate country lost many vital locations in the nation. Most notably,Palestine lost Jerusalem or Baitulmaqdis (in Arabic language) to a mighty force named Israel. This particular city means a lot to three religions namely Jew,Christianity and Islam as this single city is one of the holy cities of these religions. At present,Israel which is “popular” for its capability in lobbying for power in the American Congress, controls most of Palestine’s used to be lands. And not contented with its “achievements” which are deemed brutal, ruthless and heartless by mass media globally,up to this very moment,Israel keeps on torturing Palestine’s civilians, mentally and physically.

Now,Palestinians are tired of being plunged into destitution. They are fuelling in their level best efforts to lead a gargantuan crusade against their predicaments. They decided to go global. Now,the primary intention is to attain international recognition through United Nations to declare a Palestinian state comprising of the West Bank and Gaza.Yet,again these poor people are shrouded with jittery and fear.Fear of America using its veto power as a permanent member of Security Council of UN to dismiss their application.America,a dear friend of Israel, wants Palestine to resume peaceful talk with Israel and disagrees with the whole idea of Palestine seeking global recognition. And as we are all well-informed,this “peaceful” talk has been on-going for a long time since and both parties are incapable of reaching a consensus.

But,scholars worldwide opine that the talk met a dead end mainly due to Israel’s unwillingness to tolerate.Plus, bringing their plight to UN’s attention would indeed help a lot.America,as a major force globally, should be able to facilitate the whole process and not interfere by using its ultimate power.Let us,mankind worldwide, regardless our differences, hope that Palestine can attain its goal by establishing its Palestinian state with international recognition and escapes from its devastation.
