Food Supply Shortage

In the last 18th century,a man named Thomas Maltus predicted in one of his essays that in the upcoming future, mankind would suffer indefinitey due to shortage of food supply. His theory dictated that food supply would increase arithmetically while human population will register exponential increment.I would not say that he is a good prophecy-maker,but this guy has a point there.

Today,31th of October 2011,marks the official birth of the seventh billion member to the global human population. While this may be a good news to many,I,particularly,am puzzled over the uncertain future.Taking a peek at today's international scenario where food supply fails to meet with global demand, one would be left to ponder about the way to sustain life due to scarcity of food.

Food is inevitably, one of the essential elements to live(and oxygen,of course). Many experts have been pointing that the primary reason for this food-supply shortage "headache" is the perpetual increment in the global population. And most notably, those without "financial-wealth" would be the most devastated ones because of this problem rather than the "big guns" of the international community.

As we have witnessed, the poor one, especially nationals of "low development countries,(LCD)",are being struck by famine and malnutrition. The young ones, are really finding it hard to live despite the difficulties.Ironically, these poor countries usually have a high number of human population. But,by looking back at the scenario, there is a question that needs a definite, firm answer. Is the growing human population the only reason for this predicament?

Climate change is one other reason,of course. With unpredictable climate even with state-of -the-art satellites and other technological elements, food supply continues to decrease, mercilessly. The world's biggest exporter of rice,"the Ricebowl of South East Asia",Thailand has been hit by non-stop downpour for several weeks now. This has immensely affected the rice production of Thailand and I believe, this is a bad news for individuals who consume rice as staple food.

Other than climate change, another factor to point for the food-supply shortage is us.Yes,US!For your information, one third or 40% of food produced is being wasted by mere human beings indiscriminately.Just go to any i.e.wedding  ceremony, and notice the naked fact by yourselves. The left-overs would be dumped in garbage bins after the whole ceremony has ended. For the rich, dumping the food, would be cake walk.I believe, the same goes to all of us.However,if one really takes a single minute to think about the consequences of his or her actions,a lot could be changed in reality.

Intelligentsia worldwide believe that if the leftovers are channelled to the needy, the percentage of patients suffering from malnutrition and hunger would dip remarkably. That,my friends, could happen,if we are willing to spearhead the ultimate changes, starting right from ourselves.

We faced the similar problem prior to this in the sixties.Fortunately, with the inception of the Green Revolution, the problem was solved for good.Through that process, better seeds were introduced through genetic-modification and better irrigation also paved its way into the agriculture sector.

All in all, there is always a solution for any problem.Yet,in the end,it relies on us to decide the best way to combat a problem.

THE ECONOMIC APOCALYPSE

Beware! As been predicted in prophecies, particularly the Mayan prophecy, the Apocalypse is HERE,waiting every second to get us.The ancient civilisation may have seen the future of homosapiens in appalling conditions due to the destruction of the Earth. However, whilethe factof a chaotic disaster is awaiting us ahead may be true,it could be in a way,we have never imagined before.

Initiated from the much-noted street for its flamboyant economic success;the Wall Street, massive protests by the massesunder the name of "Occupy" is apparently shaking the globe."Occupy Wall Street","Occupy Boston","Occupy D.C.","Occupy London Stock Exchange" and "Occupy Tokyo" moves, hit the headlines of the mediasphere, assuring the world that a revolution is rising.A revolution by the silent majority which is left in huge financial problems and economic instability.

Apart from the Arab Spring, where we witnessedprominent political figures being chased away in pathetic manner by the people power, now it is the time for the rest of the world. In many nations, like America and Britain,to name a few,the nationals can feel that the governments are more concerned about the welfare of corporations and conglomerates rather than, the people who have voted for the government in power. An ubiquitous scenario throughout continents is ,the people would only be "showered" with attention during the electoral campaigns.Promising pledges are generously poured at these innocent people. However ,in the aftermath of election victory, the filthy rich and corporate figures would be the bosses of the politicians. Why,like we are seeing now,the figures themselves are funding the campaigns of politicians. In example, the Regal of America,is "busy" garnering funds for his gargantuan 2012 presidential campaign.

Politicians fail to realise that the people have given them the mandate to rule a country so that everyone can live prosperously, not only some certain fractions of community.Look at Wall Street, corporations and financial entities there,do not contribute much tangible benefits to the society. When they are in a good "mood",they will be engaged in investment as much as possible, rake unimaginable profits and when they do not feel good, they will simply divest their stakes indiscriminately, leaving the economy in a tailspin.

Not only this, many of us are also perplexed seeing big corporations engaging in mutiple business opportunities,to harness millions if not billions of dollars. But in the end, their darn calculations go wrong and they plunge into bancruptcy like what had happened to Lehman Brothers.Or maybe, they just do not care regarding the negative implications of their actions because for them, the Government is always more than ready,to help them out, using the taxpayers' money. The money that you and I pay.

And it does not just stop there. It is just the beginning of a nightmare. These scenarios trigger recessions in major economies like America and thereafter, other nations especially the developing and low-development ones, have to face the circumstances. And thank you,America and European Union, because the rest of us have to pay the price of your actions.Thank you indeed,my "hero".

Politicians and those in cotrol of the global economy, please wake up from day-dreaming.Your self-centric actions are just worsening the situation.Use your expertise to help the people.Economy is crucial as it links us together. We,inevitably,do not want to see people commiting suicide, becoming prostitutes and involving in crimes like in Greece now due to economic mismanagement.Even,Degree and Ph.D holders are becoming beggars in the street, pondering about the uncertain future.

Economy is meant for everyone. And believe these words, corporations and conglomerates would not be able to attain success without our presence. If prompt actions are not taken, then the people power may do the rest. But ,I guess that we do not want to see that to happen as we had experience seeing the fate i the Arabic region.

For the concerned parties linked to economic management, please do something to alter the status quo. Many are devastated and children shed their tears seeing the predicament of their parents,The hopes are on you now.

                                                            "JUST KEEP PUSHING"
